PCB Design & Etching Workshop

Have you ever wondered how PCB's are made? It always irritating to get lost in wires on a breadboard..Why not learn to make your own PCB at home ?

Gurgaon’s first makerspace, Banaao – A Makers’ Playground, is here to bring a complete hands-on workshop on PCB design & etching workshop for you. This workshop is for beginners interested in learning about PCB design and basic fabrication. In this workshop, participants will design printed circuit boards using the very popular PCB design tool, Eagle.

After designing, they would be making their own physical PCB boards using Ferric Chloride Etching method.

Making your own PCB boards is very easy and reduces errors while making projects and makes it look more professional grade.

Programme: 1. Introduction and need for PCBs • What is PCB? • Applications of PCB • Different types of PCB • How they are manufactured

1. Introduction to Eagle • What is Eagle software? • Getting Started • Learning toolbar functions
2. A simple example: Schematic entry to PCB layout (LED breakout, sensor breakouts, etc.) • Getting started with schematics • Learn to choose components (SMD, DIP etc.) • Making connections • Completing the circuit
3. Schematic entry in detail: • Creating custom components • Importing standard libraries • Tools for creating components
4. Board layout • Getting Familiar to working on Board Layout • Routing Techniques • Making a Board layout for your own circuit
5. PCB fabrication • Printing your circuit • Ferric Chloride Etching process • Soldering your components • Voila, see it working !! (You are allowed to take away your PCB)
6. Concluding thoughts: Practical tips on prototyping projects.

Pre - Requisites : A basic knowledge of electronics would be helpful. Please carry your own laptops. It is recommended to carry a laptop mouse as well to help you with designing. All other materials required for this workshop will be provided by us.

About the Coach : Prem Sagar B.E., Instrumentation & Control Engineering, NSIT (Delhi University) An Engineer by qualification, he is an avid geek and is always keen to solve problems by using hardware technologies. He is a full-time ‘Maker & Manager’ and is the founder of Gurgaon’s first Makerspace, Banaao- A Makers’ Playground, which is a multi-disciplinary innovation lab for people of all ages. His keen interest lies in democratizing the access to technology. Tinkering since childhood, he has made numerous prototypes & projects in the fields of electronics, mechanical, solar etc. and has won many awards. Along with Prem, our star makers, Bhavik & Veera will be there to assist you.
